Trail Description: The 21.1 mile long Heritage Rail Trail County Park ends at Lafayette Plaza, Philadelphia and Pershing Streets, downtown York, PA. The Northern Extension will connect the Lafayette Plaza trailhead with John Rudy County Park in East Manchester Township.

The trail would be a multi-use facility approximately 5.5 miles in length. A portion of the trail surface will be paved to accommodate in-line skaters, road bikes and skateboards.

The trail would allow visitors to the Heritage Rail Trail to access the extensive recreational facilities at John Rudy County Park and provide opportunities for links to other destinations such as schools, residential areas and places of work.

By following the Codorus Creek, the Northern Extension offers additional opportunities for observing nature, environmental education and recreational access to the river.

Phase 2 is currently in engineering and design, with construction slated to begin mid-2008. This phase will extend the trail from Crist Memorial Fields to RT 30, a distance of 2.5 miles.
